How I Turned a Study Group Frustration Into a Practical Solution
If you’ve ever felt like you just don’t have enough bookmarks in your Bible—believe me, you’re in good company.
This whole idea actually came out of my own Formation study group. We’d sit there flipping back and forth between the Bible and St. Faustina’s Diary, trying to keep up with all the references.
It was almost comical—until it wasn’t.

✨ The Problem That Sparked the Idea
My Ascension Press Bible has three ribbons, which honestly isn’t bad at all. But for this study, it just wasn’t enough.
St. Faustina’s Diary? Only one lonely ribbon in there.
We’d be jumping from Scripture to the Diary, back to Scripture, and half the time I was fumbling around trying to find the page. Everyone else was too!
We’d all be whispering:
“Wait—where was that again?”
“Hold on, let me find the verse.”
And by the time I found it, the group was already halfway through the next section.
✨ “I Need More Ribbons!”
At one point someone actually said out loud:
“I need more ribbons in here!”
That’s when I started thinking:
✅ Why can’t I have more ribbons?
✅ Why can’t they be movable?
✅ Why can’t it work for any Bible or book?
I didn’t want to glue anything in. I didn’t want to sew into the binding. I just wanted something simple that wouldn’t mess up my books.
✨ The First Homemade Solution
So I got to work.
I played around with different materials, making sure it was snug enough to stay put but gentle enough not to damage anything.
I sewed on multiple ribbons so I could mark every reading for the study without losing my place.
And you know what? It worked.
The next time I showed up to Formation group, I wasn’t flipping like a maniac. I actually kept up.
❤️ Turns Out I Wasn’t the Only One
Of course, as soon as people saw it, they asked:
“Where did you get that?”
That’s when I realized this wasn’t just my problem.
✅ Lots of us are doing studies that need multiple references.
✅ Lots of us are tired of scraps of paper and sticky notes.
✅ Lots of us want to treat our books with respect and keep them neat.
✨ Why I Still Use Them Every Day
Even outside of study groups, these bookmarks are a lifesaver:
✅ I keep my daily reading marked.
✅ Favorite Psalms for prayer.
✅ Notes for upcoming discussions.
✅ Anything I want quick access to.
No more rifling through pages and losing my train of thought.
